As of November 2025, Funimation has fully integrated into Crunchyroll. That means users with Funimation accounts should transfer to Crunchyroll to access beloved anime shows and movies. But what about downloads? How to download shows on Funimation? The practice should also be processed on Crunchyroll’s platform as well. This blog will guide you through the transition, explain the official download options on Crunchyroll, and introduce tools for a better offline viewing experience.

1. What Happened to Funimation?

Funimation, once a standalone app for anime streaming, officially ended its services on April 2, 2024. As we all know by now, it has fully merged into Crunchyroll. The reason behind the acquisition of both platforms is that Sony aims to build a single, comprehensive hub for anime fans.

From my perspective, the merger significantly expanded Crunchyroll’s library, which is great news for anime lovers. Today, Crunchyroll manages all streaming, subscriptions, and offline viewing features that Funimation once offered.

Can Funimation Users Log into Crunchyroll with their Original Account?

Yes. According to my research from the official announcement, Funimation users can log into Crunchyroll using their original Funimation email and password. During the merger, most accounts were automatically migrated. Users can immediately access their watch history, queue, and subscription details without a new account.

That is to say, simply visit crunchyroll.com and sign in with your old credentials, and you can watch your favorite anime shows! However, if there’s any problem, Crunchyroll recommends you reset your password and try again. You can also contact support to manually merge your accounts or fix the access issue.

It is worth noting that, if you had overlapping subscriptions across both services, the higher-tier plan will be the one kept, and Crunchyroll will refund duplicate charges.

Does Crunchyroll have all the Funimation Anime?

Almost. After the merger, Crunchyroll hosts the majority of Funimation’s library, like over 80% at the time of writing. I’ve already found some of the best hits, also my favorites here. For instance, "My Hero Academia," "Dragon Ball," and "Attack on Titan" with English dubbed and subtitled versions available.

However, not every title made the transition due to licensing restrictions. Some titles were also excluded because the rights were held by competitors like Netflix, HIDIVE, or Amazon Prime Video.

But worry not. Crunchyroll remains the No.1 global platform for anime publishing. I myself have been using Crunchyroll for a while, and I found that it hosts the most simulcasts, exclusive premieres, and industry partnerships available. I believe its massive subscriber base and worldwide licensing power ensure the catalog continues expanding with newly acquired Funimation and non-Funimation titles alike.

2. How to Download Funimation Anime (Now on Crunchyroll)?

So, can you download episodes on Funimation after its closure? The answer is YES. But all downloading must be processed through Crunchyroll now. You might be wondering: How to download shows on Funimation/Crunchyroll? You can make it with the native download feature via selected devices(mobile/consoles). Moreover, premium plans such as Mega Fan ($11.99/month) or Ultimate Fan ($15.99/month) are always required.

I myself have used the feature to download Funimation on its mobile app. It’s quick and intuitive. Here’s how.

• Step 1. Open the Crunchyroll app on your iOS or Android device. I signed in with my Ultimate Fan account for offline viewing.
• Step 2. Here, I simply search for the anime formerly hosted on Funimation for downloads.
• Step 3. Tap the download icon next to individual episodes, or choose “Download All” to save an entire season at once.
• Step 4. Find the progress and downloaded content from My Lists > Downloads. To balance storage and clarity, I also adjust the video quality in Account > Downloads. Please note that medium quality is usually ideal for saving space.

Before Funimation downloads, I also ensure that I have at least 3-5 GB of free storage. This is because if the device runs low, Funimation downloads will pause automatically(I have been there before).

Download Funimation on Crunchyroll via Console

Officially, Crunchyroll allows you to download episodes on Nintendo Switch. I’ve also tried it on my device, and here are the steps to follow.

• Step 1. Browse to the series you want and open the episode you wish to save.
• Step 2. Here, I press the X button on my controller to bring up the options menu. Select Download Episode to begin saving it for offline viewing.
• Step 3. Once finished, I go to the app menu > Download to access my saved episodes.

So what about PC? Can you download episodes on Funimation/Crunchyroll on your desktop? Unfortunately, according to Crunchyroll’s officials, there is no way to do so. That’s why I have provided two ways to download Funimation previously.

While these mobile downloads are handy for offline viewing, I found they come with several restrictions. For instance, files expire after 7 days if untouched or 48 hours once playback begins. I can only view them via the Crunchyroll app.
